A second generation Floridian, Mr. Copus was born and raised in the Fort Walton Beach area. He received his undergraduate degree from The Florida State University in 1999, where he majored in Political Science and minored in Economics. In 2003, Steven received his law degree from Stetson University College of Law and was a participant in the nationally recognized Stetson Law Trial Team. Additionally, Mr. Copus was a recipient of Stetson University’s William F. Blews Pro Bono Service Award for his dedication and legal service to the Okaloosa County Office of the Public Defender.
In April 2006, Mr. Copus was admitted and qualified to practice law in the Federal Courts of the Northern District of Florida.
Mr. Copus is the primary divorce and family law practitioner at Chesser & Barr, P.A. In addition to family law, Steven also practices in the areas of civil litigation, real property litigation, commercial litigation and criminal defense. Given the increasing number of complexities and nuances in a modern family law practice, Mr. Copus is well positioned to incorporate his real estate and business litigation experience into his practice of divorce law. Mr. Copus is licensed to practice law in all Florida State Courts. Steven is a member of the Family Law Section of the Florida Bar Association and is a member of the Okaloosa–Walton County Bar Association.
Mr. Copus joined the firm of Chesser & Barr, P.A. in October 2005.
